Penelope (musical in two acts)
Gerald Brennan wrote Penelope as a full-length stage musical in the style of the golden-age musicals. It includes 19 musical numbers – solo songs, duets, a trio, madrigal, and children’s dance chorus.
The story is a modern retelling of Homer’s Odyssey. A soldier, Euell, is separated by duty from his wife, Penny and their daughter. He is lost for 10 years and presumed by all (except Penny) to be killed in action. Penny tries hard to maintain the farm and estate but is constantly pestered by men, three especially, vying for her hand in marriage. A plot is hatched to take her farm and estate away, but it seems that Euell is not dead after all.
